PRESS RELEASE                                                                            October 3, 2016

"The Michelada named the official drink of the Day of the Dead celebration"

A Michelada is a spicy, savory beer cocktail. A unique blend of spices and lime are added to a beer and typically served over ice in a salted rim glass.
Rumored to have originated in Mexico in the 40's, it's been extremely popular since. However, being rather new in the States, there is some controversy as to the origin and what constitutes a "real Michelada".

Some insist that an authentic Michelada contains no tomato product. Others make it with either tomato or clamato juice, and in some parts of Mexico it is simply lime juice and salt added to beer.
"It is as versatile as our Bloody Mary and there are many variations, none right or wrong," says Laurie Pedersen, founder and owner of Moondance Michelada Mix. (Called by many, a "Mexican Bloody Mary").

West Bend, WI based Moondance Michelada launched in December 2015 and has since won several award for the mix including one from the Fiery Food Challenge and the International Flavor Awards. Pedersen was also a finalist in the Wisconsin's Hottest Kitchen Entrepreneur Challenge this summer.

"With the Michelada quickly gaining popularity here in the States, we've seized on the opportunity to popularize the drink with a pre-made mix that creates and authentic Michelada", Pedersen stated. "The Day of the Dead is the perfect holiday to celebrate with a drink bold enough to wake the dead."

Moondance Michelada Mix will be sold at the Dia de los Muertos Festival in the Walker’s Point neighborhood in Milwaukee. It will be held on Sat. Oct 29, 2016 at Walker Square Park.

So National Margarita Day is a made up holiday to celebrate the Margarita. That's okay! We're not complaining....never enough reasons to celebrate, right?
The beauty of the Margarita is that there are endless variations on this popular tequila cocktail and we have one more for you to try!
At Moondance Michelada Mix, we called it the MicheRita. It is a kicked up version of a traditional lime margarita. It will turn a ho-hum margarita into a slightly spicy and savory concoction that is sooo good!
Simply add a few shakes (about 1 tsp.) of Moondance Michelada Mix to a regular Margarita. For the best recipe made from scratch,  go to http://www.moondancemichelada.com/recipe-micherita.html our website and see our cocktails page. You will be pleasantly surprised at how good this is!

Please let us know what you think, and share your pics with us!

Salud! (and as always, drink responsibly)

What the Hell is a Michelada you ask?

Don't worry....you are not alone! Since I've been eating, sleeping and drinking Michelada's for some time now, I'm a bit surprised to find how many people there are that still are unaware and have not yet tried a Michelada. It was actually named one of the years top food and beverage trends by the famed Baum + Whiteman restaurant consultants.

A Michelada, simply put is a Mexican beer cocktail that is both savory and spicy, and very refreshing (and addicting). It has often been likened to our Bloody Mary and is a very popular in Mexico, other latin countries as well as the border states here in the U.S.
They originated in Mexico and although there are several "stories" as to the origin that you can find on the internet, but the truth is no one really knows exactly how they got their name or start.
There is also debate about the "correct" way to make a Michelada. Just like the Bloody Mary, there are as many recipes as there are bars, and who's to say what is the right way. Some use tomato or clamato in their Michelada, some don't. It comes down to personal preference. Our mix is a very concentrated blend of spices, sauces, and lime juice. If you prefer yours with a tomato product , simply add to your cocktail. We say...there are no rules!

Moondance Michelada Mix is here to introduce this amazing drink with an authentic ready made mix that makes it easy for you to create your own Michelada's at home. What a perfect new party or brunch idea!

See our Cocktails page for other cocktail ideas.
